New Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau is looking for an assistant coach and Larry Johnson was rumored to be on a list of candidates. But Johnson, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1991 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets, doesn't appear likely now. Thibodeau told a Chicago radio station WMVP-AM Friday morning a search is still on for Pete Myers' replacement.
"(Johnson) was interested but, at this point, I don't think it's a possibility any longer," Thibodeau said.
Johnson played in the NBA until 2001, spending time with the the Hornets and New York Knicks, and scoring 11,450 points.
The Daily Herald had noted that Johnson was "interested in the job and visited the team recently."
Also, Thibodeau and Johnson worked together in New York from 1996-2001 when Thibodeau worked under coach Jeff Van Gundy. But it doesn't look like they'll be reunited after all.
